    question about motor

Well the motor was not exactly taken care of at all... It sat out in the elements for about 20 years and somewhere in that time frame, someone thought it was a good idea to pull the plugs out of the head. So when i pulled it off i was welcomed to the sight of about half a cup of dirt and a...

    question about motor

Currently have a non functioning 1950s johnson seahorse. Just wondering if it would be cheaper to take to marine repair place and get fixed, or should i just get rid of it and try to get a new motor/used motor. The concern i have about a used motor is that I dont want to get out on the lake or...

    flooring?

Just wondering if there is a difference between exterior grade and pressure treated plywood. If regular, i.e non treated, wood is used, Thompson water sealer would be sufficient in preventing rotting of the wood for fair amount of time correct. The plywood will be used as a floor

    Help with Paint

OK, thanks for the advice. Just some plain rustoleum spray paint will work on the inside? Seems to easy, lol. I was told that polyurethane enamel will work for the outside. If not i will order some topside paint.

    Opinion on motor

OK, so i did some digging around in my area, and found a johnson 25HP with gas tank, spare prop, new water pump, and motor stand. The motor is in working condition. He wants $800 for it, but I was thinking more like offering $600. Once again i need ya'lls opinion because i am new to this and...

    Opinion on motor

You guys rock, i have heard all i needed to. Gonna pass on this and keep my eyes peeled for something else...what is a good HP to be looking for, i don't want to be crawling around on the water. It will be on a 1448. Sorry to be asking so many questions, but you guys know your stuff for sure.

    Opinion on motor

OK, so it turns out that it ran up until the other day when it stopped pumping water. They think that the water pump is shot and needs to be replaced. A complete pump and housing...any idea on the price of one/ difficulty of install. Not very mechanically suave.

    Opinion on motor

I have located a person selling a 1988 Evinrude 25 HP outboard. It has electric start installed, 2 cylinder, 2 stroke. They are asking $500 for it. Says that runs but it is rich and no matter what they do it wont change. Just wondering if that is a good deal because i don't really want to...

    Help with Paint

We want to paint over the steelflex to make the hull a solid color but are having trouble locating a paint to use. We were looking at some rustoleum antifouling bottom paint to do the job, and using the rustoleum marine topside to do the inside of the boat. Would this be ok? just wondering...

    Opinions on paint

We are steelflexing to the bottom and up the sides a little on an aluminum boat. We are using the neutral regular stuff and we were wondering if anybody had a some solid reviews for paint to go on the primed aluminum as well as cover the steelflex.

    confused about painting

The majority of the leaks are coming from around some bad rivets, we were planning on getting the marine epoxy to seal them up before we do a coat of the steelflex. We stripped off the paint and all of the rust which had acquired on the rivets. That should be all that's required to seal her up...

    confused about painting

Thanks for yalls responses. We have decided to go with the steelflex, actually cheaperhttps://www.tinboats.net/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&f=3&t=12150#. Now i don't want to get off topic, but we can just leave the steelflex as the exterior layer correct? Not really sure if it is a paint, or...

    confused about painting

We are planning to fiberglass the bottom of a 1448 john boat in order to seal up the holes, now would it be okay to use one layer or are more layers necessary? Another quick question; when it comes to painting the hull, after applying the self etching primer, would we be okay to use an acrylic...

Stripping old paint/ cleaning it up

Project is an old 14'' aluminum. We want to strip the old paint off so we can re-paint it and make it easier to find leaks and TIG weld them. We were wondering if we could use just a belt sander and a couple of orbital sanders to get the job done? Or if it is necessary to use paint stripper, as...

    58' Johnson 2-stroke

We pulled the heads today and they have become one piece (if you know what I mean). I guess 22 years of sitting outside without spark plugs would do that  . For some reason these old Johnson's are haunting me, found an 18hp 1960 Johnson Evinrude in my town. He says its running I'm...
