PIC REQUEST: Storage lids with hinges on the outside

Not stainless but this is a continous wrap around piano hinge. I too think this would be the best method because the hine is mounted to cross grain wood not into the end grain (much more secure and you can even through bolt it) https://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=283&filter=piano%20hinge

    Support ?

What are your guys thoughts on the span between bracing for 1" square tubing (1/8" wall). The braces on the bottom of my boat are set at various spacing (12' to 18") so I thought I would frame those in with 11/4 angle and then put the 1" tubing on top, but I'm not sure about the spans. Thanks...

    Drop Axle?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was mainly worried about getting enough clearance between the fenders and the sides of the boat. My intial thought was to just "Flip" the axle and get the fenders as low as possible to not interfere with the sides of the boat. I think I can accomplish the same...

    Drop Axle?

No, not on welding.web. I have no problem with the cutting and remounting of the spring seats, I was just wondeering if there would be too much force applied to the newly welded spring seats if the drop axle was flipped over. Would the axle want to rotate and start snapping things if mounted...

    Drop Axle?

Can you mount a drop axle with the drop in either direction or will mechanical forces make the axle to "unsteady" if the drops were pointing towards the ground instead of up? I'm at work right now, but when I get home I'll post some pictures. Scott

    Reed's 1542 Alumacraft Swamp Sled.

Build looks good! Another great tool for cutting foam is an electric carving knife. (Just don't let the wife see you swiping it from the cabinet!)

    Trailer Steel

Gave the issue some more thought and did some horse trading at the scrapyard/steel shop. End of story is walked in with the 100' of tube of misc lengths and came out with 40' of standard channel straight across. The guy at the counter said he would be able to move the tubing no problem. To...

And So It Begins sbarcewski 1448 mod

Deconstruction is almost done! Need to flip it over and strip the bottom. Then it is off to the welder to get a few things repaired and/or re-inforced. Went with Locust for the transom (My wood guy says it would be stronger and better. It's coated in 3 coats of Fiberglass Resin)

    Deck Framing ?

How do you guys frame for decking using aluminum angle? With the upright leg up like a normal looking "L" or with the leg pointing down like an upside down "L". Does either option offer more strength? Once I figure out this question I plan on putting 1" square tubing on top to frame the deck...

    Trailer Steel

Stumbled upon 100' of 2"x3" tube, neighbor up the way is a pack rat and I caught him cleaning out the storage yard! $50 bucks. Shortest piece is 5' and the longest is 10' everything else falls in between. So I guess my decision is made for me. Thanks for the info fellas. I'll keep you posted...

    Trailer Steel

What do you guys think is the minimum wall thickness for 2" square tubing or 2"x3" tubing for fabrication of a trailer for a 14' aluminum shallow V?

And So It Begins sbarcewski 1448 mod

Got all the hardware and seats out today. Also started stripping some of the interior paint and bedliner. I figure 1-2 days of that work and should be ready for the next step (interior framing I think). Should I work on the decking next or flip her over and strip the outside next? Also what...

And So It Begins sbarcewski 1448 mod

I'm going to Steel Flex the bottom and Mossy Oak Shadow Grass the rest (inside and out). Can you paint over Steel Flex? Most likely gonna stick with a big Trolling Motor and not do a gas, but my Dad does have a 7.5 or 9hp sitting around if I want to use it. Scott

And So It Begins sbarcewski 1448 mod

Got her into the Father-in-law's garage today. I have it all to myself until he comes up to stay this summer. The work starts tomorrow on the tear down. Hope the picture shows up.

And So It Begins sbarcewski 1448 mod

I pulled the trigger this AM on a 1448 shallow-V (right terminology I think), fella said it was made by Montgomery Ward years ago. Main use will be duck hunting and then pulling back up duty on the bigger ponds small lakes in the area to get the boy out after some fish. Right now thinking of...

Hello all, I have found this forum a great resource with all kinds of good guys and ideas. So I thought I would start asking questions. I recentley aquired a 14' with 3 bench seat in it. I want to pull the seats and deck it for the purposes of fishing in the summers and duck hunting in the...
