Straight up trade 15 for a 25 LOL =D> Good luck finding a taker on that one. Maybe if you threw in $200 you might get a bite.
Someone out there has a 20 or 25 hp tiller thats too much power i had an offer but the gears on the offer were acting funny so I passed I have also been offered 550.00 for my motor you can look at it in our photo gallery under Skully its has been completly redone and looks like it rolled out of a showroom and it runs just as nice as it looks. So I dont think I am being unreasonable or think I'm dreaming its out there for the taking and I know someone has too much power on a jon boat so if it happens it happens if it doesn't I still have a good looking functional motor no harm done in trying.

15 is more valuable than a 25 in my parts.
I think that depending on hp regs for lakes in your area, that could happen in some cases, but I suspect that isn't going to be the case in the majority of the country and I've never seen a dealer selling 15's for higher prices than they sell 25's. I know it's definitely not in my area.

Where I am at on Craigslist there are 9.9s to 15s selling for more than 25s and 30s. I would try to sell it and then go and buy one.

Yea been down that route a few times already ya get some crazy prices thrown at ya and a whole lotta BS emails and such it gets old after awhile. Taking a break from it for now may repost after the Holidays...Everybodys trying to get something for bubkiss. No real numbers thrown at me yet although had one young dude make a nice offer but he said he wasnt mechanically inclined. So me being the kinda guy I am told him its old school points and condensers that have to be tweeked now and then and it being a 1976 he would have to know a little about somethin. Now everyone knows, thats in the know that points and condensers and that system may be a pain in the can from time to time parts are a heck of a lot cheaper and wrenching them is a cake walk. So I steered him towards something newer that he wouldnt have to be a mechanic to own....These motors are bullet proof they don't make em like this anymore and when you get a good one this old it will out live you providing you know how to tweek them... Just sayin

In my part of the globe,15hp johnnyrudes are way way more popular than 20s or 25s main reason is we have to pack em,cant be left on the boat, otherwise you wouldnt have much of a boat left when you made it to the lake,,,,,,ever try to pack a 20 or 25 morning and night,,,,not an easy one..

just picked up a 72, johnson 20 tiller. pretty clean needed some work, it runs but has a low idle issue. paid 300.00. think it was a little high in price, but, most are going for 700+ in norcal

Low idle issue check the slow idle neeedle make sure it aint warn. Couple of things if you haven't done them already rebuild the carb clean it pull the lead plugs out clean them passages as well and install the new ones from the kit. also make sure your points are set dead on. In a dark room check your spark by removing the plugs in the plug boot ground the plug threads on the motor casing and look to see if you have a blue spark, by pulling the cord you may need help with that... Also if you have a compression tester check the compression on both cylinders they should be within 10% of each other..Dino these motors are like tanks but because of the ignition system they tend to be a little week in the spark area. This web site might help you a little go to www.LeroysRamblings if you haven't been there already very informative....
