I have a 67 Jon Boat handed down from my grandpa. It's terrifying to ride in. Incredibly unstable. When I say unstable I mean every time I stand I'm in danger of capsizing. I want to fix it up and use it for old times sake and because I feel like messing with it. It's 5hp rated, I could get some pictures if necessary. Any ideas how to make this more stable? Is it possible to make it a modified V or anything? Not looking to spend much. It looks a lot like this. Any input is appreciated, thanks

The narrower boats feel very wobbly at first. It might be more stable than you think. Have you had a lot of time on the water in one of these boats?

I grew up paddling canoes and never learned how far it could tip until my brother & I deliberately tipped it over. We had to stand on the gunwale to get it to go.

Maybe you could test the limits by getting it in shallow water in a safe place and see how far it will go? I think the square fronts are actually more stable than the V's.

Ya I've fished it since I was a kid and when I say unstable I mean unstable hahah. Very minimal free board. I guess I could try tipping it but then how would I get it out of the water?

You can field engineer some out riggers for stability if you feel the need. It is only worth doing because of the sentimental value.
