This is my first post on this great site. All of your great projects inspired me to re-do my 1970 aluminum jon boat this winter

The boat is a 16' aluminum v-hull. It had a 9.9 Johnson tiller steer motor that I traded up for a 1984 Johnson 25hp motor. I had the motor tuned and replaced some gears in the lower unit as well as a new impeller and some other parts.

We completely tore the boat down do the aluminum hull and started the rebuild. We build front and rear casting decks, plenty of tackle storage, navigation lights, and electrical panel.

I am attaching a series of photos detailing the build. If anyone has any questions, just ask. Hope it gives some of you some ideas for your project.

What kind, brand, of paint did you use for the top and bottom? Also, what about the cowl? Did you rattle can or roll on?

That 30hrs of prep work shows; paint looks factory. Very nice.

Thanks for the kind words!!

I used a primer specifically for aluminum. I don't remember the brand (I'm out of town and can't go out to the garage to check the can), but I got it at Home Depot.
As for the paint, I looked long and hard at several options before deciding to go with Rustoleum Oil based paint for metal. (also from Depot).

I rolled on the primer. I rolled and tipped the bottom and top paint as well as the clear coat.

On the cowl I used a self etching primer from Advance Auto parts and I ordered some Johnson white rattle can spray paint from the internet.
