1974 Sears 1436

Picked up this beast a couple weeks ago. 1974 Sears 1436 and it is in unbelievable condition, not a single leak, dry as bone. I checked out everyones builds and pretty much meshed ideas together to come up with the simplest way to get it done. Used 2x4s and 1/2" plywood. One main storage compartment in front deck and the back deck is hinged all the across. It turned out really nice. Me and a buddy banged out this project in 3 nights after work, total of about 7 maybe 8 hours.

Mounted up the bow mount motor last night, custom bracket fabricated from a piece of hollow metal door frame header and aluminum angle, turned out nice

Did something very similar this week. Took it out last night. You think there's a bit much weight up front? I think it's boarderline. I might move my seat back towards the middle bench a little and see if that helps. Anyways, nice work looks good

How did it work out for you? Do you still feel its a bit heavy in the front? It looks like you used a couple more 2x4s than we did. The support ribs on my boat come all the way up the walls, so we didnt put any down the outside edges of the frame. Its plenty sturdy, I dont know how much of a difference those studs make weight wise, but as far as support goes mine is fine without them.

Been a while and that lil 1436 I had is gone now but I ended up not minding the little bit of extra weight up there. Loved fishing off it. Decided I wanted a bigger boat though. Starting a new project soon (1648) going to use aluminum angle this time and 1/8th" sheet for the deck and floor over the ribs. but that extra bit of wood i had up front on the 14 footer was 2x4 that I cut in half lengthwise for the outside supports. so not too much extra weight compared to what you have. I noticed the deck seemed to dip a little if I stepped on the outside part of it and that solved the problem completely.
