1980 Grumman parts

I have a 1980 Grumman 16V alum . Both lifting handles at the transom are broken. I am trying to find a boat" junk yard" or a shop that might have a set of handles. I think the handles from any 16' boat would work as I could easily drill new holes. This boat will require a substantial amount of work over the winter or in the spring and I am hoping to get my repair/mod ideas here. We dont have such a shop in the province of New Brunswick that I can find. Any tips would be appreciated.

A pic of my new boat and it has handles almost identical to what I am looking for. I guess this should be posted under boats Just learning. Maybe a mod can help!!

You may get lucky and find a scraped boat or you can probably find some online.
I think I would try the local metal shop...some scrap aluminum 1/2" round and some 3/16th plate...fab something up,sometimes those guys like doing something alittle different,not to pricey either.
Where are you handles broken on the existing boat?

On my old Star Craft the handles were broken.
I ground off the stubs and found some sturdy handles at a Hardware store and mounted them below the originals.
Didn't look too bad and was thoroughly functional.

The Bow piece was a cast piece with handles on both sides. Also Busted (bad cast or poor aiming at the dock)
I had a piece of 1/4" Aluminum folded in a triangle by a machine shop ($40) and put handles on each side with Bolts. All that was on the boat years later when I sold it.

I think this is going to be your best bet. You can keep looking for transom corners on ebay but 1/2 of them won't have handles and the rest may fit depending on hour your luck holds out.

On the other hand, grind off the existing handles and use the corner caps you have.

Then google: "Mighty Grip Transom Handles"

Pick up a pair of those for the $10/each and mount them on your transom with some stainless bolts and 3M 5200.

That sounds like a good idea to grind off the pieces and leave the corner plates intact. The handles were too far apart to really lift for 1 person. I can mount new handles closer togrther so they are actually useable. :mrgreen:
