Hey guys.

I picked up a 1987 12' Coleman V-hull a couple of weeks ago and because of this awesome website, I want to start restoring and modifying. I have read on several other threads about limitations with 12' Vhulls and wonder if my plans are overkill. I really dont know what I am doing and IRT adding decks, floors, etc...

I drew up a sketch of what I would like to do but would appreciate any feedback. Need to know the dos and donts if you know what I mean. Thanks!

One of the main things to decide is if you will be using alum or wood for the framing of casting decks, etc. Some good threads on there for the pros and cons.

I was thinking about using aluminum for the deck framing and plywood for the deck to cut weight as much as possible.

I haven't started my project but I am thinking about trying alum framing with plywood as well. I have been reading some threads and looks like 1/8" angle will still be strong enough and super lightweight. Inputs on that from any of the other members will help me and him out.

I am also thinking of trying 1/2" plywood instead of using 3/4". With alum I feel I could get my braces closer together and provide enough support. If I can get the 1/2" to be sturdy enough, that would cut down on some weight too. Anyone have some thoughts on that?...1/2" plywood?

I would switch the layout of the rear seat and the rear storage hatch. I find it easier to steer the tiller from the starboard side. Other than that I think you have good ideas

Once I get the deck built I will try out both sides and see what feels right. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
