1987 20 HP Mercury electric start

need advice on this outboard.. I've checked everything I know how but I cannot get a spark to the plugs on this outboard. It set up for 10 years so I've gone thru the motor checking all the connections, grounds, etc.cleaned and checked out the parts under the fly wheel with an ohm meter; checked the dual coils with the ohm meter. I still get no spark.Did a compression check and the high/varied compression pressure tells me the valves are not opening correctly but that would have no effect on the spark. any of you guys have any idea what I might do next; except take it to a mechanic!!!!!??-p-

Look for a 'bad' feature. Maybe a Neutral control switch. If it has a "Push button" kill switch, bypass that for a test, but don't forget it.

It has a toggle switch for a kill switch; will check out bot the kill switch and the neutral switch; thanks for the tip-p-
