So I've been perusing through all of these great rebuilds and modifications and I'm stuck on one stupid thing..
I have pulled the front deck off of my 1989 TX-17 Basstracker (god bless those rusted screws) and will be doing the entire thing as I continue along. However I got to thinking. What is the proper way to put the new decking on. I plan on using a vinyl flooring. On the Old deck it went deck, carpet, then the screws went through the carpet to the metal braces underneath. On the new setup what is the best way to go about doing this?
Lay the deck out, Vinyl it, and somehow know where the old screw holes were, or use a stud finder to find the braces and drill through the Vinyl, Deck, and Metal support structure? and Screw in that way and hope I miss the old hole?
I know, I'm probably being anal about this, but decided I should probably figure out what the best way to do this was being no one ever mentions it. I'm guessing that I'm going to want to be able to access the screws down the road so they're probably have to go through the vinyl otherwise it would be a bear to tear out later if i needed. (it's probably just common sense to the rest of you)
