I have a 1990 14hp johnson it was running great and yesterday it stalled out. I sprayed a little bit of gas in the carb snd it started back up but won't stay running. If I keep reving the engine it runs but as soon as I stop it dies..??? Need help please..

I'm with Lockstock. It sounds like you got something stuck in one of the little holes in the carb throat that provides your fuel at idle. Pull it off remove the jets and blast them with carb cleaner. I'm assuming that we're talking about a 15hp, as I've never seen a 14.

Good luck!

(EDIT: I stand corrected. I see that this is a commercial 14 hp. Advice remains the same though... ) :)

Thanks for the advice I will try it tomorrow. Do you know about the low speed screw on the top of the carb n if it has a set number of turns to get to a starting point? I have to also repalce the retaining thing not sure what its called

Normal starting point for that screw is to screw it all the way in until it's lightly seated, then back out 1.5 turns.

As for the retaining thing, if it's next to the what'samahoosey it shouldn't be a problem finding it... :) Seriously, there really aren't many parts that you can't get for these motors. Go to Boats.net or Crowleymarine.com and find the part in the exploded views. A quick part number search should find it for you.

Good luck!
