2004 Tracker PT175 Gas tank vent

You all have been really great helping out so here is another question.

Have been having issues filling my boat gas tank at the pump. Have to pump the gas in really slow to avoid getting a bath and spilling the "liquid gold" all over.

Friend of mine suggested that I might have a plugged gas tank vent however I really don't know where it would be and if I find it how to clean it out without compromising the operation of the motor. At this point it runs fine just is frustrating at the pump.

Attached are pictures of the gas fill can someone help out here?

Looks to me like the vent is built into the Perko fill cap. If you can access under, there should be two hoses from the tank to the fill cap. One large diameter for the fill, and one smallerl diameter for the vent. Problem could be a blocked or kinked vent line. Or an obstruction in the fill hose. Additionally, at some point (I don't know the year) EPA required some kind of device in the vent line to prevent vapor release. I don't know what it is called or how exactly it works. Seems reasonable if that device malfunctioned, it would be an issue.

This is really conjecture on my part. Hopefully someone who has actually dealt with this will chime in.

Thanks LDUBS, It's a 2004 model. I looked a the screen on the top of the fill cap and all looks fine.

That screen on the top of the cap would not be your problem because the cap is open when you are filling the tank. I'm suspecting the vent line "vents" out that small opening right inside the neck of the fill tube (see white arrow). Are you able to access where the vent line and fill lines (from your Perko fill cap fitting to the tank)?

I agree with Ldubs there, should be a rubber hose leading to an exterior vent. Years back I had an issue with water in my fuel on a recently acquired boat. The vent hose went from tank to outside vent at a gentle angle and water was splashing the vent and running down the hose into the tank. The hose is supposed to have a loop to prevent that. Where this loop is can cause a blockage if it sits without use and crud gets in here. Or hose may have rotted, what ever, you need to find that hose or at leas the outside vent and see if that is clear. Vents are small gizmos sticking out of your hull with a small hole on the side.
