After about 3 and a half weeks of non stop work, my 2006 Lowe 1448MT modification is finished. I've taken her out to Lake Mead 3 times now and couldn't be happier with the results. The added weight in the front has really improved the way the boat handles and cuts through the water. I've only noticed a small drop in speed with the added weight. I would've liked to use aluminum, but the cost was too high and I don't TIG weld anyway. The 2x2 frame and 5/8" inch deck worked well. The boat is wired for front and rear navigation lights, bilge pump, DC outlets, cabin lights in the storage compartments, trolling motor plug and spare wires to the front for future use. The wires are run in 3/4" gray non-metallic conduit. I don't really use the live well, so after some debate I chose not to plumb it, but I will be able to in the future if I want. I run a 20 hp Honda four stroke, and Minn Kota Edge 45 trolling motor. Thanks to those who posted here before me. This website has just about everything you would need to know to take on a Jon boat modification and since this was my first project of this sort, I made daily surfing trips here to get ideas and view other projects.
