i have a 4 horse johnson 1983 it cranks then dies any thoughs

It may need the carb cleaned. If it runs a second or two then dies the fuel may not be getting in fast enough to keep it running. Then as it dies and the fuel seeps in it will run another second or two. Check for blockages in the fuel lines also.

Try pumping the primer ball to rule out fuel pump.

cleaned carb new fuel line now the top plug wire stopped firing
