I searched and could not find my answer...so if you can find an answer for me, I will love you forever.
I just got the trolling motor mentioned above. It has three wires (black, white, red). From my research, black is negative, red is 12v and white is 24v.
To save time, I wanted to just wire it straight 24v for now. I thought it would be simple but I guess I was wrong. I have the cheap trolling motor plug from wal mart that is supposed to be a 12/24 plug.
SO i add my 2nd battery and connect the positive wire coming from the trolling motor onto the positive terminal of one battery. then I connected the negative wire coming from the trolling motor to the negative terminal of the 2nd battery. I then connected a short wire from the negative terminal of the 1st battery to the positive terminal of the 2nd battery.
Then up front in the plug, I put the negative wire into the correct spot, and the white wire into the correct spot. I clicked it over to 24v and low and behold it works.
Now here is my problem...I took it out to the lake and on speed 4 its barely enough to keep me moving into a 5-7mph head wind. Now the trolling motor that i took off was a 43lb thrust motor guide and that thing on the 5th speed would almost leave a wake behind the boat. So I clicked the new motor up into 5th gear and didn't see much difference between 4th and 5th speed.
So I'm thinking that the motor is only running on 12volts.
When time allows, I plan on running another wire to utilize the 12/24 system.
Any advice?
