I do have an older merc. 6hp 2stroke, I had it out last year after fixen a gas line, the suck er purred like a kitten that weekend, took it out the next weekend and it ran bad, kept on dieing out, then very hard to start, like twelve pulls, it acted like the choke was on(only way to explain it). well I parked it, pulled it out today and was looking it over, now I don't know the part names but I'll do my best.

I had to take alot of things off the front around the carb to fix the gas line and I noticed the day it ran bad the on the fuel pump(I think) it leaked gas so, I figure two new gaskets, but I noticed today that a part moves back and fourth it runs off the fuel pump to the carb, Now I'm wondering if its suppose to do it. Is it sucken air?? along with a leaky gaskey. well heres a vid of it to show the part. sorry about the lighting I used a camer for the vid.

Well, I was talked into getting new reed and seat gasket kit for carb, when I took the carb apart it was a bit dirty inside, I picked up a new fuel pump gasket set and it all came in today, but the darn fuel pump gasket set is wrong  had a personal day this friday to put it all together. I re-ordered the rebuild fuel pump kit and it all is there(thank God for pictures)

I had a similar problem no a 9.9 Tohatsu, 2 stroke. It would only crank and run at wide open throttle. Ran like the thing was on full choke. After changing plugs, and wasting 6 gallons of fuel, I found part of the carb. linkage was loose, and keeping the flapper closed. Snapped the linkage back together, and it runs like new again. Hope this might help, best of luck, Scott.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a Bowl Float cover on the carb of my old merc,. Can't pay full price for a new one right now so I'm looking for a break?

So can a fella get a break :-?

Sucker runs and cuts out and I seen it happen on the top spark plug, it actually blowed out the gasket thats on the side there shaped like a number 8, it blew it out on the top cyclinder cause that was the only one doing it(it seemed), you can here it in the vid, but I could not capture the spark that was showing everytime the thing coughed

Pretty sure you caught the spark on the first cough. If you stare at the spark plug at about :14 mark, you will see two small bursts of light. Their either sparks or spirits.

Cool then, but uncool on why its doing it? its not coughen thru the carb, all that seems fine. I see the end near tho, only so much I can do and afford :?

in the pic is where the gasket blew out, and you could see the spark go off everytime it popped?

its last years gas but I put in some sea foam?

The plug wires I only took off one(which was the top one) to enspect the condition of the plug, it was black. I never took off the bottom one but they are screwed down anyway so that the other one won't reach the wrong one.

Man what a bummer :x

to me it sounds like it is coughen thru the carb

I origanly thought that too, after putting my hand over the carb thru all this im positive its not. it reminds me of spark plug wires crossed but thats not it either.

Had a fella tell me to take care of the leaky gasket first, that could be mixen to much air with the fuel, I'll try it.
