Ok, i really hate posting a question that has been answered a million times, and i have searched, but i am a total noobie when it comes to boats. I have a 12ft semi v hull jon boat. I picked up a humminbird piranahamax 220 and i am trying to pick out the best spot to put the transducer. My first question is, does the face of the transducer have to be level or below the boat? I ask because i don't have a trailer for it and i put it the in bed of my truck, put it on the ground, slide it to and fro ect. I also have read about "clean water"?? I am only using a dinky trolling motor to propel it, so i don't get up on plane or make a ton of wake lol. Any helping me?? Thanks, Elliot

If you are dragging your boat to launch it you won't want to permanently mount your transducer to your transom. I have seen where guys have mounted it to a piece of wood that can be C-clamped to the transom and be removed for transport. If you bought the FF new it will have mounting instructions which show how it needs to be positioned in respect to the hull. I know because I just installed the same FF on my boat. Good luck and welcome aboard! What lakes do you fish in FW?

I would also go with the board and c clamp. I had this set up for a while on my crawdad.
I also found a bubble level that i mounted on the top of the transducer so that when installed i knew it was level

For keeping it simple and easy to use, get a hold of a trolling motor transducer mount.

I used this setup on my single man pontoon boat. I mounted the head unit on top of my battery box and that kept all of my wiring in the same place.
ps. you can find this cheeper in a local sporting good shop.

First, thank you all for your input. I do like the clamping idea. as far as mounting instructions, i didn't get very much lol. I got one big flier style piece of paper explaning a few things, but i couldn't find where exactly to put it. But i am taking it i need it level with the bottom of the boat, or under.

Mount it where it is going to be easiest for you. If you use a portable type of mount, have it just under the bottom of the boat. That fish finder has a 20 degree single beam (I think) so just as long as nothing is mounted directly under it to obstruct the sonar beam, you will be good to go. If you do go portable, you can play with different mounting depths to find what will work best.

it says dual beam. I am thinking about doing a sliding mount on the transom. loosin it up, raise it, unload/load. lower it and tighten it up. that make sense?

I totally forgot to answer this question, i just got this boat, and the only lake i have been able to fish is Marine creek lake. Been out there twice, monday, and tuesday. Caught one crappy on a minnow monday. got skunked tuesday. i am still new to fishing like this lol.
