So I have been reading alot about this stuff... to mix approx 5-10% to your paint for hardening purposes and faster drying times...

I am using a Rusto Oil Based Enamel... Smoke Grey...

Is there a "preferred" hardener I should use?

The only one I know of is the Valspar at Tractor supply.
If your using the Rustoleum professional it dries faster and harder than the regular rustoleum.

Acrylic is usually latex. Oil and water don't mix as far as I know. Is there a reason you just don't use the rustoleum and let it dry? Generally the harder something is the more brittle it becomes which is not optimal on an aluminum riveted boat IMO.

I decided to use this:

The brand at tractor supply is "Majic" catalyst hardener and is compatible with Rustoleum products.

I do bodywork for a living and ive sprayed enamel a thousand times. The hardner needs to be the one that is meant for the paint you are using otherwise it may or may not harden up and you don't wanna try to remove paint that wont dry or harden. From my experience the best paint for a boat is basecoat clear coat. The green or brown stains that normally are hard to get off of hulls washes right off with little to no effort. Its not durable as far as banking your boat or banging rocks but looks better then a same as everyone elses camo boat. That enamel will also look good but it will eventually dull and become chalky and you may even see Color wash off because it has no protection from elements. It'll start on the bottom and end up all over. Need to wax the boat quiet often durring use!
