I have an 2009 Alumacraft Yukon 165. I wanted to put flex tubing that ran on the bottom of the boat from the bow to stern for running wires and cables. When I uncovered the plywood deck I saw that basically the back 1/3 of the hull had foam missing (assume it was removed due to saturation), other foam toward bow was in good shape and some was semi water logged but not awful. An electrical wiring project now also turned into redoing the floor project. I think I’ve read every thread and watched every video of people using expansion foam or pink insulation board. I have a good understanding of the pros/cons of each type of foam. Leaning toward using expansion foam. (resistant to chemicals/fuel, sound dampening, rigidity to boat, easy to work with) This boat had 2 previous owners and don’t know how the boat was stored and treated as to how the water soaked into the existing foam the way it did. For a 2009 boat the remaining foam was in decent shape so why not give it another go? Now I just cant decide how to pour it best to allow for water drainage and ventilation for this particular boat.
Should I create a channel down the centerline of the hull and fill everything else?
Thinking maybe put a 1/8” circular loom on the low side of each of those channels and pour foam over to create a small void for water to get to for drainage and be able to blow air in?
Am I missing something and should just go with the pink insulation board?
Can you give me your opinion on what you think would work best for this boat if you had to re-foam it?
Any other thoughts?
Our lakes are about to thaw and be clear of ice so Im thinking I will get the boat in the water and see if I have a leaks or seepage that needs to be addressed prior to installing any new foam.
Thanks in advance
