$700 No title for trailer or the boat or the motor.

Owner says about 3 years ego one of his friends needed some cash so bought the boat to help his friend.

He was hoping that his teenager son at the time would take interest in the boat and fishing.

They took it to the lake once and never used it again, its been in the garage all this time.

So the motor has not run in two years.

What do you guys think.

It looks like a clean boat, I can afford it, but no title and not sure the motor works either...

Keep in mind you will probably need a 100 bucks or so to get a motor that hasn't been run in years back to tip top condition.

you need to see if he nows were the guy lives and if he does you need to see if the owner will sign a title release if he will you could get it legal

I'd tell him to get the paperwork, or pass on it. Remember the recent post about the guy who bought 15 "hot" outboards & a member here bought one??

An alarm went-off in my head also when I read the post. The area on the boat where the numbers are painted look to be applied to a different color of paint, like maybe there might be some other [different] numbers under there. Just a thought. Could be a legit deal, but just doesn't sound right.

The boat brand is OUACHITA, what do you guys know about such brand, I could not find much on a Google search.

I was provided with the assumed original owner's name and boat FL number, I will call DMV tomorrow to see what they say.

It is a shame, because there is always something, I can never get one that is just right...

Maybe is because hunting season just started this week here, but people are not able to keep boats on their hands long enough, no matter what they ask, as soon as they post the ad, the thing is sold...

Last night I found a boat rig that sounded good, but they wanted too much $800. So I call the guy and offered $600 Cash, the guy says if you come now and get it, I will sell it for $600. But I thought that would be silly to buy anything in the dark and such a rush, so I told him I would stop by the next day when I get out of work, well it sold that morning....

Economy is bad, a group of people are trying to get rid of all their toys so that they can pay their bills, while another group seems to not care about economy, snatching all the boats that come out on the market...

I just don't get it, when would this be all over and done for me....

I suggest that you wait and keep looking - that is a sweet boat, but unless you can get a title and paperwork, could be a sweet headache.

As you point out, there are a lot of boats selling right now (happens every fall) so keep looking

If the guy who has it now isn't the current registered owner, he can't legally sell it, so don't take a bill of sale for the boat & trailer. If you have a friend who's a cop, write the HIN on the boat & VIN on the trailer down & have them run.

in florida he would have to get the person it is title to to fill out a billof sale for the tag office ,if the original owner wont fill it out you cant get it legal. i know i lived in fl my whole life and got burned on a boat just like that

Well

I call the DMV with the current FL number on the boat.

Here is what I found out directly from the DMV:

The original owner was born in 1924 and did not provide a driver license at registration.

The boat was first issue a title in 1982.

The boat was last register to the original owner in 1985.

The boat was last register with a sticker in 2006, but might be under a different FL #.

Per DMV there are two ways of getting the boat under my name:

They can send a letter to the last known address of the original owner to contact me.

If I don't ever hear from the original owner:

Given the age of the boat, I can go to court so a judge will turn over the owner ship to me.

In short, it is just a mess that I don't want to get into, I think I skip this time.

I am very curious how this boat was registered in 2006 ?

What do you guys think....
