Avoid battery core charge at Wal-mart

I've had that issue. Bad battery, but it shows 12V. I MAKE them call up someone from the auto service with a real tester, and they put it on and a few minutes later they give me a new battery.

Some stores will let you take it directly to the auto service area for proper testing, THEN they send you to customer service. Still worth it, in my opinion.

As a 2024 update to this older thread, I have purchased two batteries online at walmart this year.
Each were purchased online and picked up locally.
Each charged a core charge. (can't remember how it was listed, but it was $12).
Ultimately, the final price was still cheaper than competitors and also cheaper than off the walmart shelf.

...but the new twist is that you can't submit the core.
The brick and mortar won't take it because it's in the dot com system.
The dot com system has no way to accept a physical battery.

The good news is that you can call and complain about that insanity and they'll refund the core charge.

My boat came with a lifepo4 battery but it only has a fish finder and marine radio that draw off of it currently.
I think it's dead because the radio and fish finder only work when I plug in the onboard battery charger?
I plan on adding electric Start very soon.
Question is.
Do I buy another lifepo4 or a interstate from Costco and why?
Is it just space/size/weight or is there something good about having a lifepo4?
