I think if the gas tank is in a closet compartment it has to be vented or at least I would want it vented, but I think it's a USCG reg.
 
Well my original plan was to do one compartment with a divider. battery on one side and gas on the other with a vent. But I have a new idea that now puts the battery on the complete other side of the boat.
 
Just make sure that both compartments are vented if you do 2 compartments. If you just use 1 compartment then it must be vented as well. You can have the battery and gas tank in the same compartment with no issues.
