Battery cable gauge.

What gauge wire would have the factory used for battery cables on a Mercury? My 1976 Merc 500 to be exact. I'm getting ready to rewire mine completely and it has huge automotive cables on it now and I know that is not correct.

Look at the factory parts listing as it may show the size. No 2 should be about right but try to use tinned cable with soldered ends for max voltage and less corrosion. I also use shrink rap over the solder joints to seal the cables.
