i have a minnkota deckhand and was just wondering if i should use my deep cycle gel or a cranking battery to run it. its probally 20 yrs old but has never been used and sat in the box until today. im gettin lazy!! lol! thanks..

I have had minn kota deckhands on a couple of boats and had them powered by my cranking battery rather than my deep cycle battery with no issues. I would however be careful not to get on plane or in real rough water without your anchors in the boat, or a pin in the davit with the pressure released on it. The nylon gears in the unit will get torn up and have to be replaced. I speak from experience on this.
