I am about to build a casting deck on the front of my 1648 jon. I was considering mounting the trolling motor across the bow to save space. Therefore my trolling motor would fold out and hang down the left side of the bow. 1. I am not sure how reaching the motor to steer would be. 2. Would the stress on the mount be to great and lead to more problems? Still a noob in the fishing game but slowly working myself in, any and all advice is much appreciated. Thanks

It is a Minnkota 40lb thrust that mounts to the deck and it does not have a foot pedal or remote but it has an extension for the handle.

The boat is an 84 Alumacraft 1670 (same as newer 1648). With a flat front, no v at all.

Thanks

Roger
