well after months of searching and being broke and 18 i found an older guy who had an older 9.9 about 150 miles away from me i just got home the serial number plate is no longer on the transom bracket just an empty raised rectangle on the transom bracket. The engine runs good as it was well maintained most of the wires inside are brand new looking but the top cowling is a little rough around the edges but anyways i took pics of the cowling just to see if you guys can give me a general guess of its age so im able to buy parts for it the guy said he bought it and hes pretty sure it had it on there before but he was like i said must have been about mid 70s

Theres probably some type of I.D. stamped on that outboard, somewhere.
It's looks alittle newer then that to me,1984-86,just guessing though.

I think it looks newer, too. If there is a part number on the cowling, look that up, it should help you out. I'd say mid to late 80s, but what do I know, lol.

well i ordered the rear hook for the top cowling for a 1995 because look at the pic of the cowling https://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/1995/9.9ELHT/TOP%20COWLING/parts.html
