Carriage bolt holes from previous owner transom work

Thanks again guys I have the 5200 and the marine plywood. But when I disassembled I noted uneven carriage bolt holes that appear to have been handmade to hold exterior wood (the exterior wood didn't match the kind in the interior which reinforced my observation).

I intend to redo the transom like it would have been originally done on the Valco without exterior wood. My question is should I just use regular bolts on the carriage bolt holes or would I be better off welding or JB Welding them closed?

Pictures of what you're dealing with would help in trying to give you the best advice.

But generally speaking, you only want to put bolts through holes that are just the right size. If the holes are larger or wonky shaped, then its a good idea to fix it somehow and drill a new, properly sized hole.

Ideally you would get welded, but you can get creative with scrap aluminum and JB Weld if true welding isn't an option.
