Im trying to avoid spending $80-$100 in lighting costs (lights, switches, control box, wiring, fuses/board) since I would only use the lights maybe 5 times a year. I found the light below on a local kayak fishing forum.

think these will work good on small jons ?

Ive also found that some people use solar yard lights. I saw some solar lights at walmart and lowes today that have rechargeable batteries in them so maybe you could carry a couple of good energizer rechargeable batteries for maximum efficiency.

All depends how much traffic is on the water at night where your going to boat.Coats Guard has specs what distance lights have to be visible.
