Do you think is possible to position the probe of the depth finder inside my jon boat . I kind of remember that on the instruction of my device there was the option to place it attached to the bottom of the boat interponing something in between to improve signal (i do not remember what was in term of material).
Can anybody help me?

im new to fish finders but they do make thru hull transducers but i think they're only for fiberglass. i know they make an "alumiducer" for tin's but they're kinda pricey

im sure somebody with some know how will chime in

Loggerhead is dead on.

Factory transducers can shoot through fiberglass but not aluminum. As they say, though... there is an exception to every rule. Some people have tried it and had it work.. many more have failed. At the very least you will be receiving a very weak signal causing bad definition even if it did work.

The alumaducers are expensive but are made specifically for shooting through aluminum hulls.
