I recently came into a 1984 Mirrocraft with a 1971 25Hp Evinrude on the back of it. The boat hadn't been run in about 10 years. After some tinkering I was able to get it started, but the problem I am running into is the wires are all bare. Years of sitting have made them brittle. The wiring harness that runs from the ignition switch to a plug in the front of the outboard are essentially gone. I had hoped just to run new wires to the plug, but it is a sealed plug. My question is, can I just bypass the plug and run the wires directly from the ignition switch to the solenoid, and armature plate? Or is that plug a must? The motor is electric start. I am unable to locate a replacement plug anywhere. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

That will work but make it difficult to remove the engine.

How's this:

Something like that probably would work. Removing the motor was one thing I didn't think of. Thanks, I'll look around for a 6 pin.

I think that a pretty hefty hot wire is in that harness.
Better check the amperage capacity in whatever you get.
IMO, the plug is just for convenience only, not a requirement.

Since I very rarely remove my motor (every 5 years or so) when my connector corroded up much like yours,
I just ran new wires from the ignition to the motor using the terminal block that was on the motor already.
make up new connections with some dielectric grease and not only is it cheaper, it is better, in my opinion.
That way, you do not have a connector plug exposed to the elements and your terminal block is under the cowl.
