I recently came into a 1984 Mirrocraft with a 1971 25Hp Evinrude on the back of it. The boat hadn't been run in about 10 years. After some tinkering I was able to get it started, but the problem I am running into is the wires are all bare. Years of sitting have made them brittle. The wiring harness that runs from the ignition switch to a plug in the front of the outboard are essentially gone. I had hoped just to run new wires to the plug, but it is a sealed plug. My question is, can I just bypass the plug and run the wires directly from the ignition switch to the solenoid, and armature plate? Or is that plug a must? The motor is electric start. I am unable to locate a replacement plug anywhere. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
