I picked up a 1979 model 6904E 6hp today. It is fairly clean but shows its age. It has good compression on both cylinder's and there doesn't appear to be any leaks.
The throttle was hard to rotate because it had old grease that was solid and wax like. I cleaned and greased the inside of the handle and throttle pinion and gear. This made movement much easier but then I noticed a lot of play from when the throttle handle was moved and when the pinion and gear actually turned. With the old grease removed I found the throttle control pinion cracked (0303142). I haven't started looking for one yet and I hope there are some around.
The previous owner told me it hasn't been started since last summer but was running well when he put it away.
Is there anything particular to this model I should look at? Also, I don't have a manual yet, what should the fuel/oil mixture be?
