Im ready to start working on my first boat.

I would just like to check my steps here before I head out and start messin up my boat.

First I plan on sealing the bottom. Im not sure yet what brand or type to use. Suggestions?

Then I want to paint it. Now, I would like a half decent paint job so im hoping whatever sealant I use isn't too clumpy to mess it up. Im guessing that before I paint it i want to sand it all down? get it rough? Then apply a few coats of primer, then a few coats of some Marine paint? This all sound right?

Thanks guys

Sand the boat down with 60 grit paper to get it roughed up.

Tape it at the water line and apply Steel Flex to seal it up. Check the tacked thread in the Boat House forum.

Prime the rest with self etching primer.

Paint with a quality outdoor oil based enamel paint.

Go catch lots of fish! =D>

Thanks sader,

So I should only apply steel flex below the water line? the only problem is, I dont know my water line with my trolley motor, battery, seats, storage, deck, etc. and I wont until I purchase all that stuff. But should I use "Steel Flex" on any other minor cracks or possible leaks?

Also, do you know a good mail-order site for some of these items such as steel flex? boat primer and paint? Thanks a lot.
