so i narrowed it down to these two Humminbird 898 w down and side imaging for $1,499.99 or the Lowrance HDS7 COMBO w insight map and structure pack onsale for $1,599.00 any help ideas pros and cons of both?
thanks

I am sure you have researched both products well. Seems pretty high priced compared to some of the units I see advertised...BSP latest flyer has several really good sounding units for under$700. I am looking for one that at the end of the day will clean the fish and hose out the boat... then I will upgrade.
good luck and I am sure which ever you decide on you will enjoy and get lots of years of wonderful service from it.
Peace

I have the hds7 with the structure scan and insight maps. I love it I run it on my front deck and have the transducer mounted on the trolling motor.
I am thinking about getting the hds 10 to mount on my dash. the down scan is awesome it gives you a clear picture of what is under the boat

I have heard that you need to be moving to use the side imaging. Care to comment on that?

How did you mount the S/S transducer on your trolling motor?

yes you do need to be moving to get a quality picture on the side scan. the transducer for the lowrance is very small compared to the bird.
I found a mount that has a space for my puck transducer and the lss1 ducer that protects them both it was $185 for the mount but I feel it was worth the price so i dont have to worry about damaging the transducers
