I recently picked up a late 60's Sea King Montgomery Ward 14' v-bottom, and Im planning on stripping it down to the hull and starting from scratch. When adding supports/brackets to support a front casting deck, how do you attach the supports? Do you drill through the hull? Im lost and I'd hate to put more holes in the boat if its not necessary.

i drilled only through the benches & ribs for mine, i didn't drill through the actual sides or bottom of the hull, link below in my signature if you want to see how I did it using aluminum angle & aluminum pop rivets.

you can also "friction fit" a deck & not drill any holes in the boat, but that requires more weight in material for the same support versus attaching it to the boat, & more precise cuts to ensure it fits snug enough to stay put in rough water
