Hey folks!

I just managed to snag a 16ft starcraft boat with this engine on it. The model number is 35de1(?)B. The second to last number is unreadable due to a dent. I think it might be a 3. It is an electric start. It is missing the prop and it needs the seals for the lower unit to keep water out. Anyone know what part numbers I need for seals and what size prop? From my research it looks like I need a 10.5x11 prop. Anyone know a place that tells you how to change the water pump impeller? Sorry for the barrage of questions.

First off, you can go to marineengine.com and get alot of the part numbers you need for the reseal on the lower unit. Better yet, you can visit a local dealer and have him look up the same engine in either Johnson or Evinrude flavor on Microfiche and sell you the parts for the engine. Always nice to establish a relationship with your local shop.
Second, go to aomci.org for any information you need on the vintage repairs on that engine. Thats all they (we) do in that forum. Go to the ask-a-member section when you enter the site and ask away. someone in there will have a propeller for you as well or there are always props for the 30-35s on Ebay. Sounds like a good find. Make sure you get clarification on the year of the engine as the electrical system can wither be 6V or 12V. The changeover year was around 1955 or 1956 from 6V to 12V. Lets see some pictures of that engine and rig!

Guess the local shop is it out, could barely finish my sentence before the guy told me he can't help me.

Here is a pic of the motor, I'll post a couple more pics in the boat forum.

Very sharp! The guys over at aomci.org will love that one! You can look up the parts for almost any later 50's Johnson or Evinrude outboard for the reseal. Make sure you get the shift rod seal as that is usually the main culprit. There is a man in aomci.org named Frank Robb that makes a tool to remove and install the shift rod seals. Simple tool and inexpensive.

Just a brief update...I filled the lower unit with lower unit lube and it leaks oil around the propeller shaft. So, I'm pretty confident that is the seal that is bad.
