Boat is a 14' Lund Laker with 20" transom. Has 25 hp Johnson and an electric trolling motor on that transom. I'm a newbie when it comes to boating. This will be my second year.

I want to replace the electric with a gas kicker. I want to do this because I will be taking the boat into Chequamegon Bay, WI once in a while. I don't want to risk a situation where my gas motor fails and depend on the electric to get to shore. Several locals recommend this as well.

I tried putting an 8hp 1996 Mercury on there, but it didn't fit. The top engine housings would hit each other.

Anyone out there with a boat like mine with a gas kicker? What's your setup?

Any opinions on the 2.3 hp Honda in this application? I'm in a remote area and I'd have to travel 160 miles to test fit a motor. If I have to, I will, but I'm hoping someone here has done this sort of thing already.

Thanks!

You could get 1 1/2 hp Johnson I always liked the looks of them. That 2.3 Honda would be a great choice. If I could ever buy a new outboard, it would be a Honda.

I scored a Mighty Mite 2 HP outboard that needs restored. I plan on using it for a kicker someday.
