I currently have a 66 gregor 14ft and have redone the entire inside but am now interested in painting the exterior an aluminum color to make it look original again. It is currently brown with some pretty deep scratches on the sides I was wondering if I should use a paint thinner to get the brown paint off. I would like to know how you guys would recommend to give the boat a nice aluminum color. I do beach the boat occasionally so I would like something that doesn't scratch very easily.

Imo I would use some of that aircraft paint remover. I have used it before and it seems to work pretty good. Then if you want to polish it from there you can or leave it. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Its probably best to get off all the old paint and primer, taking it all the way down to bare metal.

Any way you look at it, removing old paint is messy and time consuming. Aircraft stripper, power washers, power tools, etc are all good, but in the end you'll still have to bust out some good old fashion sandpaper to get all the nooks and crannies. And once its bare, check for leaks - old paint and other gunk can sometimes seal up leaky rivets. Cleaning an old boat sometimes actually produces leaks.

Once its bare, just treat it with some sort of aluminum treatment and don't paint it.
