I know this topic comes up on a regular occasion, but people are always fooling-around with stuff

I was out looking at the Tracker today because I've planned on adding some rod holders to it for kitty fishing. Thing is, I want it to be removable & not require any permanent fasteners or holes (I may want to sell the boat at some point) to mount it. I considered buying an extra 2.5" seat post for the rear deck and making a mount for the top of it, but that's more cashola than I want to spend.

I think I'm going to use 1.5" PVC for the main holder, and use 3-1.5" Tees with 12" pieces of PVC for the actual holders. 3 rods is the per person limit here. I have an idea on how to mount it, yet make it easily taken-down or set-up.

It's supposed to rain the next couple of days, but I can complete the majority of it inside. It'll be easier to show what I came-up with than trying to explain it. In the meantime, has anyone built anything recently in the way of rod holders?

these thing are great very high end but they work . I guess you could fashion the out of pvc and get the same results..

Check these things out....They attach onto typical cleats(if you've got any on your gunwhales). I was planning on trying to figure out some way to duplicate their same idea with mine sometime....just haven't got around to it yet. Pretty neat idea though....

Those are pretty neat, I don't think they'd be hard to make, but I want something to span the rear of the boat.

That's similar to what I considered making, mounting off a plug-in pedestal stand but the style my boat has are about $30. Definately another nice holder though.

I should have mine completed over the weekend & ready for a photo session  . I'm debating painting the PVC to better match the interior as well as add alittle UV protection for the PVC.

Also considering using a 2-wire flat plug & adding a small light to the backside of the holder for some dim illumination. When the holder is removed, it'd just be a matter of unplugging the 2-wire connector. I'd like to find a way to rig one of my small (4-5") flourescent black lights to it. They really make the solar green Berkley Big Game glow.

well, got it built today, not 100% finished, and still needs cleaned & glued, but you'll get the idea.

lol, remember my post about Murphys Law?? #-o Well, it reared it's ugly head again....but, just a mole-hill for a mountain-climber  When I initially designed the "feet" which slip in under the gunwhale, I worked off of one side of the boat, the other side remained covered. lol.....and of course I had to pick the "short-side. When I built the feet & uncovered the other side, I needed to extend the foot by another 8"'.....DOH!

Here's the side I planned from, it just slips in place. It can't rock front to back, and the PVC holder keeps it from coming inward:

lol, when I uncovered the other side, I realized there was quite a difference in height #-o , so I just added an extension to it:

Here's the entire assembly in place for a test fit:

I notched the tubes for the triggers on the bottom of my UglyStik Catfish Baitcasters to fit into, it'll keep my reels in an upright position, and should also fit my spinning rods:

On the tapered pieces of 4X4, I drilled an 1.5" hole in them (not quite all the way through), and glued-in a piece of 1.5" dowel rod, then ran a deck screw up through the bottom to secure them.

I still think I'll add a light to it, and can mount the on/off switch right into the PVC itself. I also plan to paint it once it's glued together. If I missed something, feel free to ask. I can just lift the PVC off the dowels, slip the feet out & store it all. I don't intend to glue the elbows on 1-joint do I can remove the uprights from the cross-piece to take-up less room while stowed. I got some pins to push in them as retainers, and might make it so I can rotate the crosspiece for 2-different rod angles.

Well, just got done gluing things together. I swapped the 2 center pipes for the 2 outer ones to add alittle distance between the rods, that was my origional intent.

Got the light installed & wiring pulled. After the paint I just applied dries I'll wire & install the switch & 2-wire flat plug for the disconnect point. I'll get it back in the boat tomorrow & snap another pic of the finished product. I think all said & done, I'll have about $25 in it.

looks good nice job,
I cam across these awhile back, https://www.weldedcrafts.com/cleatm4lodp.jpg. I like the way that it hooks to the cleats. I never did get around to making a set.

lol, I just too gun-shy about my rigs hanging over the water. I don't tightline when I catfish, my Abus have bait-clickers & I use 'em....best sound there is to have wake you from a nap in the middle of the night

I've got some tools to bend steel rod, and I'd made a few holders for bank fishing, I even used to use cheap nylon dog leashes staked to the ground to keep from losing my rigs in the event I didn't make it to one in time. I plan to bend-up something similar to Driftmasters, and will just have them powdercoated. I'll probably fix them to an extra seat pedestal with a bar across the top, since it'd be the "cleanest" looking way to add them.

Thanks for the compliments, but it looks much better now with the wider spacing between the rods, as well as everythng being painted gray.......lol, after all....it IS the "Gray Ghost"

Thanks WW  Got it finished-up today & reinstalled for finished pics.

The paint helps it blend-in much better. I swapped the inner & outer pipes to add more spacing between the rods, it looks much better.

If you look under the center tube you'll see the red LED light I added:

I can rotate the entire crosspiece & change the angle of the tubes, I just drilled 2 sets of holes for the pin to hole the centerpiece in place. I had to whittle-down the ends of the PVC where it fits into the elbows so it'll rotate easy. The switch is for the light.

I was going to say something about mountin a board to your rear cleats like I do but after seeing some of your final pictures realize your motor would be in the way unless you built it way up. Looks good. I went with drilling holes in the gunnel for some of mine but will keep the base attached and sell the rod holder with the boat when/if I sell it.

Well....remember Murphy & his law? I found my 18" flourescent black light today, so may not even need the red one on the holder. Guess I can use it as a 3rd brake light :p

FH- I kicked-around a couple ideas, just couldn't bring myself to add any holes right now...maybe after I beat it up some  I actually built it alittle taller (by 6") so I could get under it easy to reach the rear hatches. It was just too tall, so I shortened it some, just about perfect now as I can reach it from a seated position or standing.

Thanks!
