How do you wire nav light switch?

Just curious, how do you wire the switch so that it controls the stern and bow lights in one position, or just the stern light in the other position? I think it's a DPDT (double pole, double throw) that is used, but every time I've tried it, both lights run in either switch position. What's the trick to this?

This is the diagram I use for a pull pull switch. Very simple to install.
