i just purchased a new block for my omc three cylinder. 60 hp. well its not new, but i was wondering if there was anyway of getting the year the block was made. the number on the motor tag is g2579447. the block doesnt have a model number on it like the mounting bracket does. any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks

I take it that you bought a used block off a parts motor?

Anyway, there should be the model number as well as the serial on the freeze plug, along with the serial. Did you get the number off a freeze plug, or was that number molded/engraved into the block?

But, the only years OMC had a 60 horse was from 1960 - 1968 (1960 - '64 were Gale Buchaneer - Johnson/Evinrude didn't produce a 60 until 1964), then '70 - '71, and later starting at '80, and continuing on into the 90s.

All the 60 horses from the '60s were V4s, so it will be from a '70 - '71 motor, or from an '80 to mid 90s motor.

yes, it is a parts motor. and there is a few things that i know. it is a late 80's or early 90's block. its a 56 ci. motor bore size 3.187. couldnt find any other numbers on the block than what was on the tag. just trying to figure the exact year of block.
