I just picked up a Merc 9.9 Kicker for my V16Pro. The main engine is a Merc 60 Bigfoot which just doesn't slow down well enough for trolling. My question to you all is the transom on the Trakers sufficient to mount the Kicker on the Transom next to the 60hp, or do I need a separate bracket. I know that this is the Heaviest 9.9 hp motor I've ever tried to pickup! Thanks a lot!

Guessing you have a four stroke ? Sounds like you might have overkill on your kicker motor. I have a 16' Sylvan side console (rated to 80 hp max) and I have a 2.2 up Merc kicker that works very well. It runs a little over half throttle for typical trolling speeds which smooths out the little single cylinder engine, but best part is....30 lbs total !

If it's a newer boat, which I imagine it is with the 75HP four stroke, there should be a plate indicating maximum engine weight. Add the weight of the 2 motors together and see if it's within specs. Personally, I think a 9.9 pro kicker is overkill for a 16 foot boat. I'd look for the lightest twin cylinder four stroke to use as a kicker.

I have a 16ft starcraft ss160. Found that the lightest 10hp is the old blue body honda. They are reliable and come in at 77lbs for a long shaft.. Next lightest is the merc/tohatsu around 84 for the newer models with with manual start/tilt. The pro-kicker, is much heavier as are the older mercs. I run in some rough salt conditions and glad to have a 10hp to get me home.

I do not thing adding a transom mount is going to help your situation.. To the contrary the transom mount bracket changes the leverage and ads more strain on the transom than having the motor mounted directly. Not to mention the force needed to move the thing up and down.. Tohatsu is pretty good about putting their owners manuals and specs on-line and they make the newer mercs and nissans as well..
