I recently picked up this old 14' Sea King for 200$ and it's in great shape. I'll replace the transom wood and then there's this drain where the transom and the bottom of the boat meet. It has no plug and I'm not sure whether I should try to find a plug for it as is, or to pull all this mess out and work with the larger hole. I'm new to small aluminum boats - any thoughts would be appreciated.

Will a typical 1” drain plug go into that from the outside? Harder to find, but they do make them in a 1-1/4” size. I wonder if someone was using it for a livewell drain …

My boat has a large hole like that and it is fitted with a pump for my livewell. Johnson pump(?).
