I have a 55 watt spot light it loks just like head light wanted to know what type of battery I should hook up to it. I want something with a long run time keep in mind this is going on a 12ft alumicraft with a 5hp 4stroke. Modifing boats is fairly new to me so I want to do it right. Any suggestions? Also I will up load pics of the project as it unfolds.

Well, assuming that your outboard is a pull start and doesn't need a cranking battery...

Since you'll be depleting and re-charging it, you'll need a marine deep-cycle battery.
Battery size depends on what you'll be connecting to it, and how long you want it to last.
I don't think it'll be just a spotlight...coz if you're gonna need a spotlight, you're gonna need nav lights too.

If I understand it correctly, you divide watts by volts and that gives you amps. 55w/12v=4.6amps

Theoretically, a 100 amp hr battery would last you 22 hrs, BUT I don't think it would be very bright that long. I think there is another formula for figuring how much you can draw from a battery before you loose performance.

It's all on here plus some.
