I just found what I believe is the deal of the century for me anyway, just wanted to hear if I'm over doing my excitement here, lol. I found a 2013 15hp 4stroke tohatsu for $1900 was the original price but talked him down to $1400,that is just a short shaft manual start, just what I want. It looks in near new condition, never in saltwater and has just a few hrs on it. Does this seem to be a steal or am I over doing it? Just wanted to see if this was a great deal to everyone here as I believe it is. For the junk on craigslist compared to this for the price,I think I would be a fool to pass it up. Of course I will compression check it,make sure the lower unit is clear of water intrusion and it runs good, thanks for any opinions.

Is it hot? NADA lists it as a $2100 retail OB for that model year and I typically see NADA pricing low by up to 40% over typical C-List/local sale prices ... but that is my experience w/ older motors, haha!

If all checked out, I'd buy it! But in addition I would run the serial number through a local Tohatsu or Nissan dealer to be sure, checking for warranty claims.

If the current owner can provide the original bill of sale would that make you feel any better. It would prove he's legit.

Deal fell through,i just didn't like the way the owner was pushing it on me.It wasn't hot,he just got the motor at a really good price.I dab in buying and selling and i was in ahh land when he said he would take $1400,it wouldn't start, carb was gummed bad and it sat for over a yr,plus some parts were just falling off of it so i passed on it.I don't go by the nada book because it means nothing on outboards.A older say a 1995 merc 25hp 2stroke according to the book is worth nothing but in reality it's worth a good chunk of change.

2strokes in great condition are very rare and high dollar today so the nada book is worthless unlike cars. Most of the time their is some type of catch for a cheaper outboard, this guy didn't have a clue about outboards,he just trades and tries to make money with whatever he can get.The motor in reality was worth $1400 but i thought it was like new according to him it was and it was not when looking close up.I just didn't want to take a chance when i have a 7yr old little girl with me,i believe i'm going to go new and just spend the money.Peace of mind knowing the only one to ever touch it was me and i'm a maintenance junkie, lol.
