I bought my Blazer this summer and it has the 40 hp jet from Mercury on it. First jet prop that I have had, and had a few questions on maint on it, since I did not get a owners manual with it.

I use this year round, smallie fishing on the Gasconade river, so its not in storage for long, so I don't have to winterize it I would say. I know to change the oil, but with the jet prop, is there oil in the lower unit, or gear oil like on props?

This is a 2010 model by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of good info here: https://outboardjets.com/

I caught a 4lb smallie below the Jerome ramp a few years ago, great river.

There is no lower unit fluid or oil, however there is the pump bearing that needs to be greased. If you didn't already know it should be greased after every outing. Keep stabilizer in your fuel to keep it from breaking down, especially if it sits for more than 15 days.

Thanks. Yep I grease that lower fitting every time when I get done.

Supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow so we are hitting the river for some smallies.

LOL....I had the same question about lower unit grease and the guy at Eberlins in Herman Mo just looked at me and let me realize that it was a dumb question. Live and learn right?
Hope to see you out on the rivers....we'll be on the Gasconade and Osage as often as possible. Look for us in a Lowe 1448 with a Yamaha 40/30 jet on it.

Will do. I started this summer just staying between Jerome and Boiling Springs Campground but have slowly been going out different areas on the river. Slowly learning it as I go.

I completely disassemble my jet pump at least every 2 years to prevent any parts from seizing. It's easy to do. Check the water pump impeller while doing this. Buy yourself the water hose adapter for the outboard jet so you can run it at the house.

There's no dumb questions. We all had to start somewhere!

Excellent area, I have gigged that stretch a lot. Seen a lot of nice smallies and largemouth. Killed an Asian carp up there last Winter, first one I have seen up that far.

I went on my first gigging trip after the season opened this year when the water was REAL low. Got one sucker, first time I ever went and had a blast.

The guys I went with said they have been seeing more and more of those Asian carp. They live on the river, so they get to see it everyday.

Just FYI, but read the link below from OutboardJets. They changed the type of grease recommended for our jet drives. I'm about due for a new tube and need to get some of the new grease for my jiffy luber.
