I just bought a MK PowerDrive V2

It has a tag on the battery wires that says you cannot hook up any other electronics to the battery that you hook the TM up to for danger of messing up the TM battery.

I usually have my lights (which I rarely have to use) hooked up to the same battery as the TM. I don't have anything else connected. Does anyone think this would be a problem? Would I be safe to continue to use this set up or do I need to rewire for the lights on the boat?

Thanks

When your talking lights, are you talking nav. lights, flood lights, big 12volts spot lights?
With nav. lights, they don't draw much power at all, together probably around 3 amps. It's not going to hurt you all that much.Flood lights and other big spot lights, can draw quite abit of current.Still, though the only thing it should do is reduce your trolling time.
It just comes down to not discharging your battery to far, thats hard on them.

Welcome to the site...

I think that by Electronics they are talking about Depth finders or gps units
like zum said spot lights will reduce your on the water trolling time
remember you are not only using the battery to drive but to turn the motor also

Thanks for the advice. I think the main thing they were talking about was hooking the TM to the same battery as you crank your motor with. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't do any damage by hooking the TM to the same battery as the Nav. lights.

Appreciate the welcome. I was discussing my boat mods with a guy on another site and he directed me here. Lots of good info on here. Glad I found you.

Nav. lights should be no problem.
I know people that have their TM connected to their cranking battery and they really like it./?
They say while they are going from spot to spot the outboard puts alittle charge into their battery given them atleast the same amount of time on the water but this is another whole topic...what size motor, alternator, how long of running to spots...etc etc.
Welcome to the site.

welcome

i think they're more worried about people frying the tm's from hooking up accessories wrong because they'd have to warranty it. you'll be fine with your lights

you can use it for whatever you want if you have everything wired up properly. if you dont you can let the magic smoke out of all your goodies. the more amps your drawing off your battery the quicker its going to die

like stated before check your warranty you don't want to void it
be sure to install the proper in-line fuse to protect your other equipment
