motor shaft shorting

hello new member have a question. in converting a 50hp evinrude starflite 1959 year long shaft to short shaft cutting off 5'' from top that goes in motor recutting flutes in shaft. the orginal flute bottoms are curved outwards will it make a deference if new flute bottoms are cut flat.

Instead of recutting the flutes why don't you cut the shaft, put a coulper in the shaft & weld? Thats how they do it on some racing motors.

or just buy the right (short) shaft for it .
