I posted this in the motors forum but I figured this may have more TM traffic. I will more than likely be buying a motorguide pro series 50 (52lbs 12volt) foot controlled trolling motor tomorrow. Its an older model, not sure what year yet. I guess I'll have to get the serial number and call Motorguide/Mercury. They still sell pro series, but like a lot of the trolling motors, the bass pro reviews are mixed. It's in excellent shape. I was wondering if anyone had one and could tell me how they like it and how long it has lasted. Is $225 a good deal?

 That is exactly what I have on my 16' Tracker. Been on my boat since 2004. Very reliable. Put tons of hours on it. Well over 200 trips. Had to replace the lifting rope once.... that was the only issue. This past year I noticed the power was lacking somewhat. More than likely its a brush/armature wear issue so I just ordered a new one(54lb) for about $500.

Actually ended up buying a BRAND NEW MinnKota edge 50lbs 42"shaft for $250. I couldnt pass that up! The motorguide pro series 50 was older and didn't come with the warrantee. And from what I could tell it had better reviews

Craigslist. I bought it from a guy that thought it might be a little too much thrust and someone gave him a 42lbs. He never registered for the warranty so I got that too! So I basically lucked out and got it for half price with the warranty!
