Just got a lightly used Mercury 60/40 Jet for my 16’ Express. It has a 21” transom and I will have to raise the motor up to the lowest mounting hole to get the intake at the correct level.
I have to seal and cover the two mounting holes from the previous motor, and account for the small lip on the top edge of the transom.
i purchase this mounting plate and was planning to use 5200 sealant around the old holes, as well as the new bolt shanks.

My concerns are around these two pages on the Mercury Installation manual.
1) it says to make sure the mount is flush to the transom and not to rest on the edge/lip (like I have)
And
2) the other page says NOT to use a plate or wedge between the motor and transom. So how the heck am I supposed to abide by both suggestions? Or just ignore it and install as shown in pic1?
**FWIW, I asked the plate manufacturer and they didn’t really have an a opinion in regards to the Mercury install.
